Our assignment entailed designing a building around a chosen branch from the outdoors. The challenge was to seamlessly integrate this branch into the building's design. To achieve this, I aimed to incorporate the branch as an integral element of the structure, making it appear as though it were organically growing through the walls. This concept manifested through the strategic placement of the branch, visible as one entered the building. The design was orchestrated so that the descending stairs led directly beneath the branch, guiding visitors into the heart of the building's main structure.
As one navigated through the initial building, a deliberate path guided them towards a second building, where another section of the branch seamlessly traversed from one structure to the next. In a bid to enhance the architectural narrative, distinct design choices were made for each building. The first building embraced openness, allowing abundant natural light to illuminate the interior and offering unobstructed views of the branch from both inside and outside. In contrast, the second building was more enclosed, prompting visitors to venture within to engage with the other segment of the branch.
This design exploration yielded two unique spatial experiences, demonstrating the dynamic interplay between the built environment and the natural element. The integration of the branch not only infused the building with organic aesthetics but also encouraged an enriched connection between users and their surroundings.
